About the LNC

The Lexington Nonprofit Coalition (LNC) is a local alliance of KNN members committed to a stronger, more unified and collaborative nonprofit sector serving the Lexington community.  

The Coalition officially launched in late 2020. The work of the Coalition was essential to creating a unified voice that better educated the Mayor’s office and the Urban County Council on the work and economic impact of nonprofits, including successfully lobbying the Urban County Council in 2020 to restore the proposed elimination of funding of the city’s partnerships with nonprofits. The Coalition also facilitated nonpartisan engagement in the 2022 and 2024 general elections. There is still much work to be done and so many partnership opportunities ahead!

What does the work of LNC look like?

  • Meetings are held monthly and are hosted in-person by LNC members around Lexington, or via Zoom.

  • Meetings include strategy setting around local, state, and federal policy engagement; education and discussion of key issues impacting members, the nonprofit sector, and the Lexington community; visits with invited guests informing the Coalition’s work; and an opportunity to learn from, network, and collaborate with other nonprofit members.

  • The LNC successfully engages its members with policy makers, including Congressman Barr, state legislators representing Lexington, and LFUCG Councilmembers and the Mayor’s administration.

  • The LNC ensures that the nonprofit sector voice is heard via meetings with public officials and in public meetings.

As a member of the LNC, your nonprofit will:

  • be kept up to date on the public policy issues impacting your organization and the nonprofit sector at the local, state, and federal level.

  • receive key insight into specific partnerships and funding opportunities.

  • stand with other nonprofits to advocate for a more collaborative and effective partnership with government to better serve the Lexington community.

  • benefit from the opportunity to connect regularly with nonprofit colleagues working to build a thriving nonprofit sector.
