Kentucky Nonprofits: More Than Charity
Every other year, KNN releases a new More Than Charity report to increase understanding of the economic importance of Kentucky’s nonprofit sector, as well as it current challenges. The 2024 report highlights that over 162,000 jobs in Kentucky are at nonprofit employers, making the nonprofit sector the fourth largest private sector employer in the Commonwealth. This report also focuses on the state’s delayed agreements and late payments on grants and contracts with nonprofits, which are impacting nonprofits’ ability to recruit and retain workers and effectively serve their communities. These issues often lead to waiting lists for essential services and, in some instances, the closure of programs at nonprofits when they cannot be adequately staffed.
