KNN Announces 2011 Award Recipients

Published On: September 22, 2011

Greetings!

I love a celebration, and KNN is excited to celebrate this year’s recipients of our annual awards!

Nonprofits are charged every day with the task of creating innovative ways to more effectively meet community needs.  Sometimes the most impressive and needed innovations occur through collaboration, and Heartland Cares of Paducah, the winner of the 2011 Fifth Third Bank Innovative Nonprofit Award, illustrates how a team approach can change lives.  Heartland CARES provides HIV/AIDS care, prevention and community awareness.  Their collaborative efforts with others in the region have allowed for a “one-stop-shop” approach to integrating medical care and social service supports, particularly in more rural areas.  Congratulations to the staff, board and volunteers of this innovative organization!

To run these innovative nonprofits, we certainly need leaders who are effective, willing to taking risks, create an environment that embraces new ideas and listen and respond to the needs of the community.  Janet Isenhour, recently retired  executive director of the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning in Lexington and 2011 Energy Insurance Agency and Travelers Insurance Distinguished Nonprofit Leadership Award recipient, has done just that.  Under her leadership, the Carnegie Center truly engaged the community in the literary arts and set the organization apart as an award-winning nonprofit with vision.  Her entire staff signed her nomination form – now that’s a lot of love and admiration!

KNN is honored to present these awards each year.  We are humbled by the innovation, creativity, commitment and focus occurring across Kentucky by our nonprofit community.

Please plan to join us at the Ninth Annual Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Forum on October 27 as we celebrate Heartland CARES, Janet Isenhour and all Kentucky nonprofits!  We’d love to see you there!
